DEFENDING CHAMPION jockey Rickey Walcott surrendered his title but not before showing off what champions are made of as he dominated the Barbados Turf Club’s fifth and final race day for 2016 by winning half the card yesterday at the historic Garrison Savannah.
Walcott’s beaver-trick matched the feat jockey Patrick Husbands achieved on Gold Cup day earlier this year by sweeping all three feature races.
His highlight on the day came when he majestically produced the underrated Lewin Gooding mare Nekitta with a devastating burst of speed to run by his rivals in the $37 000 Diamonds International/Crown Of Light Boxing Day Stakes and Trophy over 1 570 metres, a Grade-I for three-year-olds and older rated 140-122 and below (ATE).
Lucky Adventure, Joshua, Just A Fashion all controlled the top three positions early when the horses were sent racing before a massive Boxing Day crowd. (LY)
