THE Barbados Cancer Society threw its annual children’s Christmas party earlier this month to help lift the spirits of the young ones and their parents.
The party, held at the Barbados Yacht Club on Bay Street, St Michael, included a kid’s zone full of neon colours, balloon sculpting, a bouncy kid’s castle and makeshift pizza parlour.
“When the children come together it’s often one big family atmosphere because they either know each other from hospital [when ill] or from the outpatient clinic,” president of the Barbados Cancer Society, Dr Dorothy Cooke-Johnson, said.
“It’s a really nice happy family feeling. They often welcome back each other with smiles and hugs. So they bring along a sibling or their parents,” she said.
When it was not fun and games, she said they spent time educating parents about cancer and how to care for their children. (MR/RL)
