Hughes is top jockey

RASHEE HUGHES is the new champion jockey of Barbados.

The 19-year-old resident of Long Gap, Spooner Hill led the jockeys’ standings throughout and got home easily, winning nine races more than his nearest rival.

During the Barbados Turf Club’s third and final racing season he lost his sting of the two previous seasons as he landed only three wins. His total figures stand at 31 wins from 125 rides with total earnings of $350 374, for a winning percentage of 25.

He had an excellent year in the steels during which he remained focused, while displaying his budding talent. He found the winner’s enclosure with great regularity as he landed a quintet on Derby Day, August 6, with Burbon Street, Chimichurri, Midnite Chick, Maussane and Lucky Adventure. (LY)
