DESPITE not returning home with any medals, coach of the national water polo team, Ryan Forde, is proud of his team’s performance at the recently concluded Julia Zurek Ardila Tournament, hosted by the Miami Riptides Water Polo Club in Fort Lauderdale, Miami.
Twenty-six members of the local team competed in the age-group tournament for both the Under-18 and senior teams, with some of the younger boys joining the senior team.
“The Under-18 comprised primarily of 15-year-olds in an effort to give the 16-and-under, and 18-and-under players as much experience as possible. They played against the bigger Americans, but lost by one or two goals. Most of the final scores were 15-11, 14-12, and they played against kids going into university, whereas our players are now going into fourth and fifth form,” Forde said.
“The experience they would have gained is huge. That being said, we are also going back to the 15th South Florida International Tournament in February 2017 in Coral Springs, Florida.” (RA)
