Stores standing by their product

THE CIRCULATION of two separate videos highlighting what has been described as “plastic cabbage” has forced one business owner to call in the health authorities.

Insisting that he is standing by the quality of all the products on his shelves, including cabbage, managing director of Carlton and A1 Supermarkets Andrew Bynoe, whose Black Rock, St Michael store is named in one video, said he took the step to ensure the safety of his customers and consumers generally.

“To satisfy our customers, I’m going to ask the Ministry of Health to come in and allay the fears of not only those who shop with us, but generally speaking who are buying cabbage, because the cabbage is coming from the same source,” Bynoe told the WEEKEND NATION yesterday.

He later confirmed that he had contacted Port Health, which is responsible for assessing the imported products, and was awaiting word on whether personnel would follow through with an inspection of his stock.
