NEW CALYPSO QUEEN of the region Chrystal Cummins Beckles-Holder has called for changes to Barbados’ national competition to make the judging process more transparent.
Beckles-Holder, known by the stage name Chrystal, wants an electronic tallying system to be introduced and a further breakdown of the points scheme.
Chrystal made the comments on arrival at Grantley Adams International Airport on Thursday night after she created history the night before when she won the Queen Of Queens Regional Female Calypso Monarch competition in Montserrat for the third time.
Praising the judging system in Montserrat, Chrystal said the criteria, consisting of lyrics – 20 points, melody – 30 points, rendition – 20, and personality – ten points, was broken down even further.
For example, of the ten points awarded for personality, five points are given for use of the stage and two for crowd interaction. (SDB Media)
