Six murders overnight

PORT OF SPAIN – Six men were murdered overnight, among the dead an 18-year-old.

The victims include four men gunned down at Beverly Hills, Laventille. A seventh man is reported to be brain dead.

Teenager Zion Carlos Murray, of Jack Terrace, Enterprise was stabbed to death near his home.

Around 10:40p.m. he was at School Lane when he had an altercation over money with a man known to him. The killer dealt him a single stab to his left upper chest. As Murray collapsed, the killer ran off and escaped.

Less than half an hour later, a man was found dead at Brasso.

Around 11 p.m. PCs Ramoutar and Badall of the Brasso Police Station responded to a report of a man lying motionless at Caparo Valley Road, Caparo in the vicinity of the breeding unit. The man had been shot in the head.

Police said the man was not yet identified. He was found to have a tattoo with the word “Gamble” across his abdomen. A district medical officer pronounced him dead at the scene.

Also around 11 p.m. police were called to Laventille where a reputed gang leader, Sherwin “Chookoo” Balthazar was shot dead. Balthazar, who owned a carwash in Maloney, was gunned down at Beverly Hills.

Two hours later, gunshots again rang out in the area, and three men were killed. Another man, nicknamed “Dirtsman” was shot in the eye. He was said to be brain dead at hospital.

Police suspect the three men were murdered in a suspected revenge killing. (Express)
