THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH should investigate local alternative medicine practitioners, a medical doctor has said.

Responding to reports that more Barbadians were turning to unregulated complementary remedies, family physician Dr Abdon Dasilva charged that the Ministry of Health “is not doing anything” about the practice.

He made the comments after the SUNDAY SUN contacted him for his perspective on last year’s high number of sudden deaths.

“I am not an expert on sudden death, but are Barbadians looking after themselves the way they should? I don’t know if they do or they don’t,” he said. “How much of the alternative medicine is contributing to people’s death is a question to be asked. It’s something that Government needs to take very seriously.”
