THERE IS NO denying that local songbird Christina “Chrissy D” Dottin has what it takes to be a success. From her quirky personality to the natural sashay of her hips, this girl is definitely going places.
Dottin, who was named Digicel Barbados’ first female brand ambassador on December 15, said that from the time she knew herself she was in love with music.
The resident of Rendezvous, Christ Church would agree that she is more the arty-type than an academic.
“I figured I could dance from age six,” she said.
“I think I was watching a routine with Aaliyah (deceased American singer) and I remember doing her whole routine – perfectly.”
“From the time I was young, I could do everything and my mum [encouraged me],” she said about her biggest fan and closest friend Judianna Pompey.
Christina is an only child and believes in the power of declaration.
Actually, she said she predicted from nine years old that she would land this current stint as an ambassador with Digicel.
Christina recalled going to town with her mother to buy a cellphone from Digicel for her tenth birthday.
She said she looked up at a Digicel billboard and immediately told her mother that she would represent the company one day.
“For some strange reason, in my life everything that I said that was going to happen has happened. It might not be in the exact order but it has happened,” she said.
The believer in Jesus, with a hint of spunk, said she believes that people grasp the compass to their life through what they say.
“I believe in prayer too, girl. I want to leave a name behind but any fame and money which comes is to bless my family. My goal is to bless my family,” she added.
The Beat 104.1 co-host of the Morning Crunch Show with Astra Babb from September 2015 to March 2016, said that both her parents came from big families and so eventually she would like to one day have her own – though admittedly not so large.
“My ultimatum is not to be rich but to be very comfortable. I want my kids to be proud of me to be able to say ‘my mum is, Christina – how cool is yours?’” she said, laughing.
“With all my hopes and dreams though I find comfort in going to God as I am, every move I make I pray about it because I know at the end of the day if it is for me I would get it.”
Though it may not look that way she said 2016 was one of her hardest with several doors closing in the 22-year-old’s face.
The June born said it got to a point where she realised that the last couple of months were purposed as a faith-booster for her.
“Because it’s in your darkest moments that you get to see the power of God and that is when I realised that shutting down was the best option,” she said.
The host of Launch – the television show, and singer of the 2016 soca song Dingolay featuring Noize Boyz has been a prominent face of Honey Jam Barbados.
Actually, it was through founder of the show Ebonnie Rowe that Christina partnered with Digicel.
“She was like I believe in you but when you get disappointed so much you are blind to the potential of success [if you let it]” she said. “To realise that Digicel chose me was my bright light.”
Christina explained that that night Adele’s rendition of When We Were Young spoke to her for some reason.
“I completely forgot that Digicel was scouting for a representative and it means a lot for them in helping to fast forward my career,” she added.
Though in love with music, Christina said she would like to pursue voice acting or animation.
Christina finds it easy to rattle off 12 accents ranging from the Texas Chic to the Afro-centric Nigerian or the old lady with the cough voice or 12-year-old boy.
Image wise the lover of R& B said that her go-to clothes range from a T-shirt, beanie and jeans to something sultry and black with heels.
Christina is packing a powerful punch so look out for this dynamo next year in Honey Jazz while at the same time doing her best as a Digicel ambassador.
