JUSTIN PARSONS upstaged two-time CARIFTA bronze medallist Bryan Prescod to capture the Barbados Chess Federation’s national Under-20 title on Saturday.

Both Parsons and Prescod, two former Lodge School boys now enrolled at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies, finished the six-round championship on five points each.

Parsons, however, was crowned champion on account of winning the head-to-head clash when the two met in the penultimate round on Friday in the final event on the 2016 programme at the Bridgetown Chess Centre in Cavans Lane.

Prescod, the Under-20 bronze medallist in the CARIFTA Chess Championships in 2015 and 2016, installed himself as the early favourite after winning his first four games. (HG)
