HEALING HERBS: Sunflower seeds good source of fibre

AS I SAT ON MY BED thinking about being a spiritual, innately fearless being, I could not help but recognise the confidence of living in the middle of the ocean for my entire life. Can you imagine not being mermaids but living on a small rock in the middle of the ocean far away from everyone on the other islands?

Yet we appear so fearful. Do we ever stop to analyse the beauty and risk of living in the middle of the ocean? It should give us a feeling of bravery, strength, risk-taking, hope and faith.

I also thought about the present fears of Barbadians and conversely our connection to the universe. Presently, Barbadians are confronting many societal challenges related to potholes, water, sewage, garbage, education, health, nepotism, transportation, cronyism and finances as the world watches in amazement. Moreover, our innate fearlessness has been suppressed by fearfulness which has morphed into cowardice.

We must fully regain that incredible fearlessness. If you live in the middle of the ocean unnoticed by many, divinely you are fearless. We must therefore rediscover our collective consciousness which will drive us to succeed, coupled with the belief that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Like silent doctor sunflower, we must keep looking into the direction of the sunlight to grow spiritually. In fact, research shows that “these special flowers actually face the sun as it rises in the east and follow it across the sky until it sets in the west”. This is what we must do, chase our dreams wherever they take us.

But what else are sunflowers good for? Their seeds, according to www.organicfacts.net, have a large amount of dietary fibre. “If your body is deficient of fibre, you may experience a host of health problems like constipation, piles, haemorrhoids, colon cancer and many others. Severe digestive problems can even increase toxicity within your intestines,” the website said.

Sunflower seeds can treat migraines, ear problems, swelling, goitre, cholesterol problems and stomach worms. They can also strengthen bones and muscles, increase energy levels, improve brain health and prevent cellular damage.

The website globalhealingcenter.com said: “There’s an added bonus to the magnesium in sunflower seeds; it promotes a healthy mood. Over 100 years ago, magnesium sulfate was given to patients suffering from depression.”

Finally, after reading this article, close your eyes and visualise being in the middle of the ocean for many years on a rock and surviving. Consider this warning from 2 Timothy 1:7: “For God has not given us a spirit of fearfulness, but one of power, love and sound judgement.”
