NO REJECTED or below-standard drugs are being sold to Barbadians.
Head of the Barbados Pharmaceutical Society, Paul Gibson, cleared up that perception after delivering a lecture at the National Council of Substance Abuse, Belleville, St Michael, yesterday.
“For the last 25 years or more, Barbados has always taken a very firm stance on the quality and the level of pharmaceuticals being used by its people, and that was done through the Barbados Drug Service,” he said.
“I’m happy to say we have pretty much maintained that. Like any other system, there are times when you may have something slipping in, but for the most part we import good drugs – drugs that are FDA [Food and Drug Administration] approved, that meet all the pharmacopaeia compliances and that are used in the country of origin. If it is not used in the country of origin, our people will not take it.” (YB)
