WOMEN’S CRICKET needs time to develop.
That was the view of chairman of the Barbados Cricket Association’s (BCA) women’s cricket committee, Hartley Reid, in response to concerns that the sport was lagging behind in its growth.
“There are persons in Barbados who have the game at heart and they are looking to fast-track women’s cricket wanting it to be at the stage of men’s cricket.We also have to remember, as the West Indies are having issues now with playing nine Barbadian men, women’s cricket has the same issue,” he said.
Reid also revealed that people were of the opinion that since the BCA took over women’s cricket in 2011 there should be more female teams playing in the Iris Walker Memorial Women’s Tournament. (RG)
