TWENTY-ONE of the 24 national Independence honorees for 2016 had their insignias pinned by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart during a ceremony on the grounds of Government House yesterday.

Twenty-five minutes after the scheduled 10 a.m. start, it was announced that Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave, who would usually do the honours, would not be attending the ceremony and the pinnimg would be done by Stuart instead.

However, Sir Elliott would later make an appearance and perform the knighting of Sir Geoffrey Cave, Sir John Connell and Dame Selma Jackman. He apologised for not attending earlier but said he had to seek medical attention, though he did not specify.

The awards were presented for achievement in their various fields of work and for commitment to their country. (LK)
