FOR the second time in two years Shernelle Walcott has found herself homeless.

The mother of five first cried out for assistance in 2014 when she revealed that she was pregnant and roaming the streets with her two-year-old son.

After her plight was highlighted, a family member took her into his home.

However, last year Walcott became homeless again when the relative had to give up his rental home and move on.

The 28-year-old explained that she had been living since then at an abandoned house in The City and sometimes sleeping in Independence Square or other haunts where the homeless gather.

On Wednesday night she came to the NATION once again pleading for help.

Her circumstances changed recently when the family member, who was caring for her now four-year-old son, told her she would not be doing so any longer.

“I went by her house and she told me take him, this is the last time that she looking after him,” Walcott said. Her other children were all dispersed among other family members.

“I don’t want him on the streets with me,” she said. “I don’t want him to sleep in the abandoned house.”

She added that the boy attends a primary school in Christ Church and she was also concerned about him not being able to do so.

Walcott explained that she had lost her job at a cleaning firm last October and was actively looking for work to get back on her feet.

She said she had been to the National Housing Corporation and the Welfare Department on several occasions but except for a food voucher, no other assistance had been forthcoming.

In addition, Walcott said the owner of the abandoned house had ordered her to leave.

“I like I gotta sleep out there by NHC [National Housing Corporation] and let them see the truth because they have my files,” she said.

She expressed fears that her child could be taken away if she does not get accommodation soon.
