Fed up with litterbugs

WHILE THE Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) wants to use education as its first resort, coconut vendors who dump their shells illegally have been put on notice.

SSA public relations officer Carl Padmore said such dumping was an environmental hazard and the authority was willing to enforce the law if pushed.

“The position of the SSA is education first. We want the vendors to be able to earn a living – once the relevant permissions have been given, they can call the SSA and we can tell them the proper way to dispose of their shells but if education fails, we would have to go to enforcement.

“We are willing to work with vendors who are making a living but that living cannot be a threat to the environment,” he said. (CA)
