CBC: Show cut not politics

THE REMOVAL OF president of the Barbados Road Safety Association (BRSA) Sharmane Roland-Bowen as a guest on the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation’s (CBC) Mornin’ Barbados show had nothing to do with politics.

That assurance has come from CBC’s general manager Doug Hoyte (below), who said plans to make changes to several television programmes had been made since December. doug-hoyte

Last week, Roland-Bowen revealed she would no longer be appearing on Mornin’ Barbados as a guest on Wednesdays.

She said the move had not come as a complete surprise as she expected “casualties” as a result of the BRSA’s aggressive stance on the pothole issue.

However, Hoyte told the WEEKEND NATION it was purely coincidental that her removal occurred at the time it did.

“I made a decision around Christmas last year that certain changes were to be made as it related to some television programmes and I sent directives to staff regarding these changes,” he said.

“However, when I realised that those directives had not been followed, I sent out another set of directives in the New Year. So the decision wasn’t made last week, it was actually made long before then. The fact that it came at this time is purely coincidental and is no way political.” (RB)
