RECENT PROMOTIONS have not solved the perennial problem of acting positions in the Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF).
Last week, 56 officers moved up the ranks, but these were outstanding promotions which were due in 2012 and hundreds more were still acting in positions – from sergeant up to commissioner of police.
In fact, the situation, revealed in this newspaper last June which showed that every senior officer in the hierarchy was acting, has not changed much. Except for Assistant Commissioner Erwin Boyce who was among those promoted and is tipped to be the next commissioner, all the other senior officers are acting.
The senior management includes Acting Commissioner Tyrone Griffith; Acting Deputy Commissioner Oral Williams; Acting Assistant Commissioner Leila Strickland (human resources); Acting Assistant Commissioner Lybron Sobers (crime) and Acting Assistant Commissioner William Yearwood (operations support).
