TWO DECADES of futility finally ended triumphantly for the football fraternity in St Michael North West on Saturday night.
St Michael North West put aside last year’s disappointing semi-final loss to beat fellow first-time finalists St Michael East 1-0 in the championship match of the second National Sports Council/Youth Development Programme Community Under-17 Tournament at Briar Hall.
Playing before scores of passionate fans from the Deacons, Black Rock and Ferniehurst communities, including their Member of Parliament and Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler, fortune smiled on St Michael North West with a fortuitous title-winning goal in the 15th minute, compliments captain Kavian Inniss.
The goal wasn’t a spectacular one but it was enough to earn the winners a trip to Trinidad and Tobago during the Easter holidays. (EZS)
