A CANADIAN VISITOR has until Friday to pay $30 000 in fines after pleading guilty to possession and importation of cannabis.
Gurkirat Sraa, 22, was fined $15 000 for each offence when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Christopher Birch at the District “C’ Magistrate Court on Monday.
The alternative is two years in prison for each offence, with the sentences set to run concurrently.
Sraa was convicted, reprimanded and discharged (CRD) for the offence of possession with intent to supply, and reprimanded and discharged (RD) for trafficking cannabis.
He arrived in Barbados on Friday and 16 transparent, vacuum-sealed packages of cannabis were discovered in a false bottom of his suitcase during a customs search at the Grantley Adams International Airport. (PR/SAT)
