LONG-STANDING RECORD holder Orlando Greene is among several outstanding Barbadian athletes being honoured with events bearing their names in today’s annual Joseph Payne Memorial Classic at the National Stadium at noon.

It is the first major meet of the athletics season and as usual the leading locally-based athletes from the clubs will be on show as they begin their quest to qualify for the CARIFTA Games in Curacao and other overseas meet this year.

Greene will have his name affixed to the men’s 800 metres, an event in which he still holds the national record of one minute, 46.24 seconds, set in 1976 in Philadelphia.

That event, in which CARIFTA double gold medallist Jonathan Jones will be the favourite, will run off at 4:05 p.m.
