GUYANA JAGUARS were made to fight tooth and nail for a tense five-run victory by the Duckworth-Lewis Method over winless ICC Americas in their WICB Regional Super50 Cup Zone B cricket match at Windward Club, Lucas Street, St Philip, yesterday.
Chasing the ICC Americas’ respectable total of 220 for seven in 45 overs after a late start due to early morning rain, the Jaguars were nine runs adrift on 212 for four in 43.3 overs when bad light ended play at 6:02 p.m.
At that stage, with veteran Shivnarine Chanderpaul (22 not out) and all-rounder Christopher Barnwell (29 not out) at the crease in an unbroken 50-run fifth-wicket stand, the Jaguars were ahead on the calculations, having lost only four wickets.
The Jaguars’ second victory in four matches, which pushed them to nine points, was set up by a 131-run third-wicket partnership between captain Leon Johnson and fellow left-hander Assad Fudadin. (EZS)
