DEAR CHRISTINE, A YEAR AGO I met a very nice young man. We liked each other from the start and it was not long before we were very close. He was quite honest with me because he told me he had another girlfriend.
They are engaged. He told me if he had met me first I would have been the one he would have been engaged to.
Sometimes I go out with other young men in the hope of forgetting this one, but I just can’t.
What can I do? Please don’t tell me to forget him.

Dear S.M.,
What do you want me to tell you? That you should hang on to this guy for the rest of your life, even though it appears he is ready to marry someone else?
The only thing you should try hard to do is forget him. Of course, it’s going to be hard, but for your own future’s sake you must try.
What’s the point in him saying things might have been different if he were not already involved with someone else?
When you go out with other young men, try to enjoy their company. Get to know and like them for what they are.
It’s pointless comparing them with and this guy who is already involved with someone else.
– CHRISTINE
