THE DIAMONDS International men are one step closer to retaining their title after defeating the Virgin Atlantic women 7-5 on the first day of the Diamonds International Battle of the Sexes Polo Tournament.
Playing at the Holders Hill ground on Sunday, the men were the first to send the ball between the sticks with a shot by Richard Deane.
However, the women didn’t at all let the abilities of the men distract them on the field and English player Hazel Jackson managed to send one between the bars to even the scores.
President of the Barbados Polo Club, Wayne Archer, soon scored another to take the lead once more before the team, made up of three non-nationals and one local, again levelled the game when Jackson scored before the end of the first chukka. (RG)
