The country’s Davis Cup team is now just one win away from winning its first overseas tie after capturing yesterday’s doubles rubber to take an all-important 2-1 lead in Paraguay heading into today’s reverse singles at the Rakiura Resort.
With world No.142 Darian King pairing with seasoned campaigner Haydn Lewis, the visiting Bajans put themselves on the brink of history with a big 6-4, 6-4, 7-6(5) straight-sets win over Ayed Zatar and Bruno Britez.
It was an impressive performance, giving Barbados two bites at the cherry today to earn their first Davis Cup victory away from home since being promoted to Group II in 2012.
