Xnnián kuàilè – that means Happy New Year in Chinese.
Yesterday, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Barbados and the Central Bank of Barbados celebrated the beginning of the Chinese New Year at Church Village Greens in The City.
The new year, which is also known as the Spring Festival, is marked by the lunisolar Chinese calendar, and this year is the Year Of The Rooster. The event, which was entitled the Fish & Dragon Festival, attracted hundreds of people, both locals and visitors, who soaked up the fusion of local and foreign cultures in Bridgetown.
The festival started with a joint blessing of a lion and dragon by Governor of the Central Bank, Dr DeLisle Worrel and Chinese Ambassador Wang Ke. (TG)
