The following statement was issued today by Mia Mottley, Leader of the Opposition Barbados Labour Party (BLP), after a tour of The City districts.
The BLP came on the road today to Rub Shoulders with the People of the City. We will do it individually and we will do it as a Party.
We observed that many Barbadians are lacking confidence in the attainment of the Barbadian dream.
For me this is very discomforting and heart wrenching. There are young people who have never worked – and some who have not acquired skills since leaving school. They want to go but they do not have the money. – a young boy at Combermere who wants to be a Doctor but his mother only does occasional part time work.
He and other Barbadians deserve to live their dream.
Many are just not seeing themselves and their children advancing in the current environment of drift and failed social and economic policies.
We have intensified our dialogue with the people because we sense they need a reassuring voice; something and someone to believe in again. The disgusting, indifferent attitude to problems by this government has left many, indeed the majority of Barbadians exasperated and shaking their heads.
So The BLP will continue on the road across this country to Rub Shoulders with the People. We will do it individually and we will do it as a Party.
We know more than ever Barbadians need to be told to hold on and to keep hope alive. (PR)
