THERE WERE tricks, flicks and bicycle kicks aplenty as the first night of the Barbados International Beach Soccer Tournament got under way Friday night at Brandons Beach.
Hosts Barbados lost 3-1 to a jubilant Antigua; Trinidad and Tobago came out 5-2 winners against Guyana in a frantic affair; and England made light work of Guyana, winning 5-1.
Barbados started the game well, looking to flick the ball into big Jamar “Crouch” Grazette and work off the front man. The ploy yielded a couple of half chances early on, but Antigua, with their high energy approach, took the lead.
A tussle for the ball involving Tito Beckles and Sherwin Warner Jr led to it falling kindly to O’Dell Murray, who blasted a right-foot shot past Romayne Primus in the Barbados goal to fire Antigua in front in the 12th minute. (ML)
