DEAR CHRISTINE: 15 and afraid I am pregnant

DEAR CHRISTINE, I am 15 years old and still attend school. My problem is that I fell in love with this guy and we had sex many times.

I enjoyed it very much but I am now worried as I have missed my menstrual cycle for a month. I feel as though I am pregnant.

Christine, I am doing quite well at school and would hate to have my dreams shattered by becoming pregnant. It would also hurt my parents quite a lot since they have deep faith and confidence in me to do the right thing all the time.

I really do not know how I can face them if I am indeed pregnant. This thing is driving me out of my mind. Please advise me what to do as soon as possible.

Dear Teen Girl,

As to whether or not you’re pregnant can only be determined by a doctor. I would advise you to see one as soon as possible.

If you are indeed pregnant, you should then report this to your parents. I doubt very much they’ll be happy over your news, especially if the young man responsible is unable or willing to do anything about it.

It’s a pity when children like you (and yes, you are still a child) place yourselves in positions where you have to face the problems of early parenthood. You neither have the ability or knowledge to bring up a child. If someone does not come to your rescue (most likely your parents), both you and the innocent child have a hard road ahead of you.

Check yourself out professionally, and do that right away asI have suggested.

I’m sorry if I am wrong in thinking that you cannot expect much or any help from the young man.

The record shows that they are likehit-and-run drivers. They will stay with you until the trouble they create begins . . . and then they are gone. For your sake I sincerely hope that I am wrong.
