THE inaugural Burger King/Sky Mall National Housing Community Netball Festival got under way with a double header: Silver Raiders versus Newbury and later on Newbury Ballers versus St Philip Combined on Saturday.

The festival is a tribute to the Banfield sisters Sonia, Sonja, Harriette and Julia, who have all represented Barbados in netball and have made a sterling contribution to the sport over the years.

After a late start to the parade of teams, where only five of the 19 teams registered marched before the judges, there were mixed results in the matches played.

In the opening junior match, Silver Raiders thrashed Newbury 30-15, with Kiana Russell converting 18 of her 26 shots to win Most Valuable Player Award. (RA)
