DALE CLARKE’S vision of making road tennis an international sport has taken another step forward with the launching of a partnership in South America.
Clarke, who as head of the Professional Road Tennis Association (PRTA) has negotiated the most lucrative tournaments with big cheques and a brand new car for winners on the local circuit, has also made forays into the United Kingdom, the United States and Caribbean market in a bid to make road tennis “global”.
Now the latest breakthrough has taken place in Panama with a partnership being established with a priest, Mauricio Mendez, setting up road tennis courts and introducing the PRTA brand to hundreds of youth.
“Mendez had visited Barbados in the past and fell in love with road tennis which he recognised as a cheap sport that could be used to reach out to some of the poor youngsters in his district,” Clarke told MIDWEEK SPORT. (KB)
