Thousands of jobs to be created in tourism sector

OVER THE NEXT THREE YEARS, roughly 14 000 jobs are expected to be created in the tourism sector.

In making the announcement earlier today at his annual media briefing, Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy said this was predicated on a number of projects set to come on stream.

Among the hotels marked for renovation or expansion include Sam Lords Castle, Sandals, Sandals Royal, The Sands and Hyatt Centric in Bridgetown.

Additionally, Sealy said the Old Eye Hospital in Bay Street would also become a hotel, part of the overall expansion earmarked for the Carlisle Bay Area.

The Minister was speaking at his annual media briefing at Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, but did not indicate if the proposed hotel would carry the name of an international chain. (BN)
