Staff think it’s best Governor go

THE SITUATION BETWEEN Governor of the Central Bank Dr DeLisle Worrell and Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler had become so untenable that the bank’s staff believed the appointment of a new Governor might be the best solution.

That was the view of a senior member of management at the Spry Street, Bridgetown financial institution, even before the Court of Appeal lifted an injunction yesterday afternoon giving Sinckler the power to fire the Governor.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the senior officer said while there were some staff members who supported Worrell, it wasn’t practical for him to continue under the circumstances.

“The situation has grown to the point where most staff see it as untenable if Worrell were to stay on. Unless the Governor and the Minister of Finance somehow manage to patch things up, we would be back at square one,” he told the WEEKEND NATION. (RB)
