Record numbers for Boyce tourney

A RECORD 18 teams will participate in the 11th Keith Boyce Memorial Cricket Tournament, which commences today at 12:30 p.m.

School team Lester Vaughan Memorial and the Terry Clarke XI will debut in the annual 35-over-a-side competition, while St Andrew club Belleplaine return after being absent for a number of years.

The tournament, put on to commemorate the life and contribution of the late former Barbados and West Indies energetic all-rounder Boyce, was initially limited to teams based in the parishes of St Lucy, St Peter, St James, St Andrew, St Joseph and St Thomas, has welcomed all schools, even from outside the catchment area.

A product of St Peter and a past student of the Coleridge & Parry School situated in the same parish, Boyce is credited with giving selfless service to the game in the northern parishes both as a player and even more so as a coach once his playing days had come to an end. (WH)
