Two drive away with top honours

CHAMPION driver Christopher “Teach” McFarlane and Tristan Gibbs drove away with top honours as drivers settled the opening round of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) AutoCross Series at Vaucluse last Sunday.

McFarlane, at the wheel of a well-prepared GoodYear Tyres Mitsubishi Lancer Evo.X, won the four-wheel drive class with the day’s fastest time of 1 minute 30.53 seconds, and took away a maximum 15 points.

Gibbs grabbed the two-wheel drive honours in a Honda Civic SRI 1600 with a time of 1 minute 37.20 seconds.

In an event that attracted 13 drivers, Stuart Garcia, in a Subaru Impreza STI 2000, took second place among the four-wheel drive competitors with a time of 1 minute 34.43 seconds, while Derek Rudder had to be content with third place in a Subaru Impreza WRX 2000, after returning a time of 1 minute 44.18 seconds.
