PRESIDENT OF THE Barbados Football Association (BFA) Randy Harris has described last night’s shooting during a football game as “unfortunate”.
Harris said for the past three years, the BFA had been making a special effort to uplift the integrity and the image of the sport on the island.
And while he admitted that the incident would “set back” football in Barbados, he said he was positive that in the long run “football would survive”.
Thirty-five-year-old Jason White of Fairview, Christ Church, received two injuries to his left foot, and Keymar Holligan of Eden Lodge, St Michael also received a gunshot injury to his left foot.
The incident occurred on Belfield Pasture, Belfield, St Michael around 8:28 p.m.
Both White and Holligan are members of the Belfield football team and were playing in a match, when White became involved in an altercation with a player from the opposing team.
Two male supporters of the opposing team ran onto the pasture and opened fire on White, which resulted in both players getting shot. (RB)
