THE ENTHUSIASM SEEN in the annual agricultural exhibition Agrofest at Queen’s Park by young people is not filtering into the Barbados 4H Foundation.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Agrofest Schools Gardening Competition prize-winning ceremony at Ellerton Primary in St George yesterday, chairman of the Barbados 4H Foundation, Osmond Harewood, told the DAILY NATION the society had become “low-key” and there was a meeting to revamp the organisation recently.
“This year we (4H Foundation) have planned to organise several activities geared towards attracting more young people . . . . We will have programmes in areas such as confectionery making, cake and pastry, budding and grafting, rabbitry and sheep production,” he said.
Harewood said this was an effort to raise the profile of the foundation to show its contribution to society. He added that these programmes were to engage young people in activities they could develop into businesses, as in previous years. (SB)
