Why court didn’t restore injunction

THE ACTIONS AND decisions of a public authority should not be constrained by court orders, the appellate court noted yesterday as it revealed why it did not restore an injunction that blocked the Governor of the Central Bank from being fired.

Less than 24 hours after the Court of Appeal’s refusal last Thursday to reinstate the injunction, 72-year-old Dr DeLisle Worrell was fired – something he had been trying to head off since February 9 when he was summoned to a meeting with Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler via a text message.

Yesterday the court gave its reasons for ending Worrell’s more than two weeks of legal wrangling with the minister, who issued an ultimatum for him to resign by February 13 or be fired. (AC)
