Pressure too much for workers to bear

DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY, sometimes caused by changing environments, along with the demand to meet deadlines in the midst of downsizing and layoffs, are putting pressure on some workers.

The reality is that many workers are not properly dealing with these pressures and as a result are experiencing mental health challenges. They may just be turning up for work, but not producing at their optimum, nor giving of their best.

As a result, there is a high level of presenteeism in businesses as employees aren’t giving a full day’s work.

Chief programme manager at the Productivity Council, Anthony Sobers, said while the impact presenteeism was having was difficult to measure, he said it was a big problem, resulting in a major loss of time in the workplace. (CM)
