Call for cricket hall of fame

FORMER SCHOOL PRINCIPAL and long-standing cricket administrator Jeff Broomes has recommended the establishment of a national cricket hall of fame.

The former Barbados Cricket Association vice-president, who served for many years as national youth team manager, made the suggestion while delivering the annual Keith Boyce Memorial Cricket Lecture entitled Respecting And Honouring The Outstanding Barbadian Cricketing Legacy at the Keith Boyce Pavilion in Diamond Corner on Tuesday night.

Broomes said he thought it should be formed “with a clear strategic focus of affirming the outstanding contributions of our cricketers past, present and into the future” since they had done much to promote the island internationally.

“Most of these Barbadian ambassadors have continued to live good and positive lives without ever having been nationally acknowledged for the true statesmen [and women] that they have been and consistent with what they have done for our nation,” said Broomes. (RG)
