A FACEBOOK PREDATOR was locked away for five years yesterday for molesting a 12-year-old girl he solicited on the popular social media site.

Shawn Daniel, 24, of Vauxhall, Christ Church, was convicted of buggering the minor between July 1 and 31, 2014, and on October 25, 2016, after a jury found him guilty.

The No.5 Supreme Court heard how Daniel added the girl on Facebook and the interaction developed beyond the Internet to the telephone, then to face-to-face meetings. On three occasions Daniel had anal sex with the young girl at their homes and at the drive-in cinema. It was on the final encounter that the girl decided to tell someone about what had transpired.

In his defence, Daniel claimed he was forced by the girl to engage in sexual activity. (TS)
