ATHLETES ARE the ones who promote the country, says Ephraim Serrette.
The president of the Athletics Association of Trinidad and Tobago made the comment while responding to the view that athletics needed more corporate sponsors.
Serrette was at the time attending the inaugural Barbados vs Trinidad and Tobago Junior Athletic Classic last Saturday at the National Stadium.
“They really need to understand sport and what it can do for the development of the country. When you travel [people] don’t tell you about [Keith] Rowley and [Patrick] Manning. They may know calypsonians, but we don’t see that as an important thing. These are the people who sell their country. . . (RG)
