DEAR CHRISTINE, I see other people writing about their problems and I am hoping you can help me with mine.
I have two children for my husband but we are not together. You see, my mother made me marry him because I was pregnant. In fact, I had to leave school and was pushed into marrying this man.
I would now like to obtain a divorce. I would like my mother to see this letter and realise what she has done in forcing me to marry this man. I would also like her to come sometimes and give me some money for the children.
When I got married, only my family was there. Not one member of my husband’s family was.
I hope other mothers would read this letter and not force their daughters to marry because of a child.

Dear S.F.,
Not all marriages that are brought about as a result of a baby on the way fail. Yours happens to be one of the unfortunate ones. Getting a divorce costs money, and if this is what you would like, you’d better get a good job and save towards it.
Why try to reach your mother through this column? Why not go to her and tell her what you would like? If she knows how unhappy you are and your need for help, she might do just that.
I am hoping your letter would catch the eyes of other young girls who get involved sexually. Invariably, this leads to unwanted pregnancies and sometimes situations like the one you’re in now.
You can be no more than a child yourself with the responsibility of children. Your youthfulness should not prevent you however from trying to be a good mother to your children; more so when they seem not to have a father of any particular merit.
Try to think positively about life and do not allow this situation to get you down. Instead, let it be a stepping stone for you to move on from here and make something out of your life for the sake of your children.
I know right now you may be thinking that life stinks, but it really does not when you know you can rise like a phoenix from the ashes, dust yourself off and face life once again. Also, do not let the pending divorce get you down. I am sure with a right attitude you will make it.
– CHRISTINE
