THE SITE OF one of the island’s worst tragedies is about to disappear from the landscape.

The building which once housed Campus Trendz, a clothing store in which six young women died in a fire in September 2010, is due to be demolished today.

Heavy-duty vehicles and equipment were on the site yesterday and the all-clear to raze the building on Tudor Street, The City, St Michael had been given, according to reports.

On September 3, 2010, two men firebombed the business place with Molotov cocktails made of gasoline-filled beer bottles, after robbing the store.

That fire claimed the lives of three Campus Trendz employees: Kellisha Olliviere, formerly of Wellington Street, The City; Shanna Griffith, formerly of Pile Bay, Spring Garden, St Michael; and Pearl Cornelius, formerly of London Bourne Towers, The City, and three shoppers: Kelly-Ann Welch, formerly of Montrose, Christ Church; Tiffany Harding, formerly of Upper Collymore Rock, St Michael, and Nikkita Belgrave, formerly of Shop Hill, St Thomas.

Two men have been convicted in the deaths of the young women and lawsuits filed by their families against the building owners, the store owner and the authorities. (AC)
