DARIAN KING can certainly play with the big boys.
Now it’s just a matter of beating them.
The Bajan ace’s run at the Miami Open is done, but not without a fight, as King went up two early breaks in the first set before eventually losing a hard-fought second round encounter with world No. 12 David Goffin yesterday.
Supported by a small Bajan crowd, including Davis Cup teammate Haydn Lewis, the 24-year-old King raced to a quick 4-0 lead but couldn’t maintain the momentum in a 7-5, 6-1 defeat to the eighth seeded Belgian.
It was a spirited performance, to say the least, coming just two weeks after King took the first set off of world No. 11 Gael Monfils in a riveting second-round matchup at the BNP Paribas Open.
