DEAR CHRISTINE: Teenagers, parents need grace of God

DEAR CHRISTINE, I am a regular reader of your column and I appreciate the way you deal with the problems and concerns of others.

What I think most of these people (especially teenagers) need is the grace of God. When I read some of the letters that girls between the ages of 14 to 17 write, I wonder if they are mad.

Some of them are in love with married men and some want to leave home. My advice to these girls is to put their books and studies before all these things and the Lord will do the rest.

On the other hand, there are parents who want to run their children’s lives, even after these children grow up and get married. We all know that Barbados is a small place where most children live home even after marriage, which is very bad as a man after marriage should provide his wife with his own home and be responsible.

Then I think that most parents, mothers especially, don’t want their sons ever to leave home.

My advice to those parents who are guilty of these offences is to turn to the Bible where it tells them, when a man takes a wife he forsakes mother and father and clings to his wife. There can be no other way. A mother who feels that her children owe her anything is a mad woman.

Parents will find themselves in trouble on the day of judgment if they stand in the way of their children’s happiness.

So I would like to ask all parents to take a look at themselves and turn to God when their children take unto themselves husbands and wives. Keep up the good work.

Dear F.B.,

I am grateful to you for your letter and your good wishes for this column.

Your advice to the young and elderly who are guilty of the errors you have pointed out is sound. For their peace of mind and happiness’ sake, I hope they will not only read the wisdom of your words but also heed them.

– CHRISTINE
