ROAD TENNIS masters Julian “Michael Jackson” White and Winston “Charles McEnroe” Griffith put on a display of their sublime skills to cruise into the quarter-finals of the Massy United Insurance Clash Of The Titans road tennis championship on Wednesday night at the Dover Courts.
Number two player White closed out the night with a 21-16, 21-7 dismissal of Adrian “Dan” Skeete, while Griffith halted the advance of 15-year-old Deighton Griffith student Ezekiel “Ezee” Ward 25-23, 21-11.
Ironically, Skeete’s sow in the second game occurred in front of businessman Andrew Bynoe, who had provided two suckling pigs for the champion of the Lance Bynoe Veterans Tournament earlier this year. Skeete had inflicted five sows on his opponent.
After matching White up to eight in the first game, Skeete was undone by the superior defence and counters of his opponent. It was almost unbelievable to see White using the ploy of feeding the southpaw balls high in the back court, which he repeatedly smashed, while White returned with nonchalance. Often Skeete eventually hit the ball into the net or out. (KB)
