BARBADIAN FISHERMEN have had enough with breaking the law to feed their families, and are calling on Government to conclude an agreement with Trinidad and Tobago that would allow them to legally fish in the waters off the twin-island republic.
Anderson Kinch, a fisherman who has plied his trade for more than four decades from the Bridgetown Fisheries Complex, is bemoaning the fact that scores of his colleagues and countrymen now have to break the law every week to feed their families.
Acting as a spokesperson for the disgruntled seamen at the complex, Kinch claimed that fishermen could attest to the waters around Barbados being virtually devoid of flying fish recently, forcing them to head to Tobago to fish the Bajan favourite.
And when they do so, they put their livelihoods on the line. If caught, they risk facing heavy fines or even having their boats confiscated.(BA)
