YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE!
That’s the swift comeback from veteran trade unionist and former president of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW), Walter Maloney, to those employers’ representatives who in the past week complained about the Employment Rights Act being unfairly slanted towards employees.
The chief executive officers and human resource managers were participating in an employee engagement workshop. They expressed concern that the act allowed employees to hide behind the phrase “that is not my job” as they refused to carry out certain tasks.
They also claimed that a section of the legislation, which expunged infractions and warnings after a year, also worked in favour of workers. (HLE)
