Barbados-based diplomats have been having a busy social schedule.
Germany’s 50-year relationship with Barbados was marked with a cocktail reception hosted by German Ambassador Dr Lutz Gorgens at the Royal Westmoreland Clubhouse.
It was an occasion when Gorgens flew here from his Trinidad base to join other diplomats, consular representatives and Barbados’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Senator Maxine McClean in toasting the anniversary.
The German envoy lauded the relationship Barbados and Germany have enjoyed since establishing diplomatic relations around the time of Barbados’ Independence. He even regaled his guests with stories about the brave exploits of Barbados’ first Prime Minister, National Hero Rt Excellent Errol Barrow
as an airman.
At Sugar Hill, New Zealand Ambassador Jan Henderson opened her home to host the third annual reception marking Commonwealth Week. New Zealand’s former Governor General Sir Anand Satyanand and Lady Anand took the long trip to Barbados for the occasion.
Chair of the Royal Commonwealth Society of Barbados, Cheryl Bell, took the opportunity to thank supporters of the local body’s activities. (GC)
